Church Marketing Sucks :: They Said It, Not Me

9 September 2005 4 views No Comment

Using Technorati’s new tool, Blog Finder, I came upon a blog that has existed since July 22, 2004, but I just found it. Church Marketing Sucks

The site reminds me, in a way, of The Noah Institute – with an edge. A marketing edge. Both have great eye-catching names, but I still give Dave at The Noah Institute the edge in creativity. Hey, it is pretty easy to say something sucks.

A MovableType blog, it is very well designed. Attractive. Easy to navigate. And, it is filled with interesting posts from a collection of bloggers. Visit that link and scroll down to the “Who’s Behind This?” section. They are a mix of West Coast (mostly L.A.) and mid-western church and marketing evangelists. Ah, finally – people where that term actually fits.

Shawn Stewart, the Designer, deserves to be singled out for very nice work. A pretty sight and site.

I like it. A good example of using online to discuss and further the marketing communications aspect of a discipline / community.

The Peer Review section is of particular interest. The bloggers post ongoing church marketing activities and seek input from their audience. A further good example of testing best/worst practices through open content management systems. Nice idea.

For more than 15 years I’ve driven past a church on the way to my parents’ house without ever really noticing that it was there. (Most likely because it’s located next door to Handel’s, north-east Ohio’s best ice cream parlor.) A few days ago, I happened to glance at their message board while following a slow car.

It read:

We aren’t Handel’s, but our Sundays sure are great!”

Check out more from their site.

I like Technorati’s Blog Finder tool. It still needs some tweaking, but – hey, what doesn’t. The great thing about the tool is that you may find blogs that have been writing about the particular topics of interest to you through the use of tags. Check out their tags search tool, too.
