The MAN :: He is blogging. 1 post … 308 comments
“The Man.” Timothy Berners-Lee has started a blog.
the father of the World Wide Web
has started a blog…
Tim Berners-Lee is blogging, writes Constantin Basturea.
Yep, I’ll say he has one. One post, entitled “So I have a blog” and it has 311 comments now, more were added while I wrote this. Well, when the guy that started it all has a blog, you know people will flock to it.
Is it too much to note that he first posted Mon, 2005-12-12 14:52? Probably, but do you note that he started on the twelfth day of the twelfth month and the time adds up to be 12? 1+4+5+2 = 12 OK, I’m losing it.
The sweet thing about it is that almost all of the comments (I could not read them all) are thank you notes. As in, thank you for the WWW. Kinda cool, when you stop to think about it. Comments from all over the world and from web junkies of all ages.
The comments range from students posting in the blog of a man they read about in their textbooks. The title of the article in the text? “A modest genius.” A Korean student writes, “It’s an great honor to leave a message on your blog, Mr.Lee.” Others thank him for their jobs, their lives, and more…
Words like congrats, Honor, and huzzah are in almost every comment. “Thank you” appears often, too. Then, there is the funny, “It’s about time!” comment. Well, hey. He’s been busy.
So, the online world creator – that refuses to accept the moniker, by the way – is now blogging. He did, however, take the check – $270,000. Berners-Lee was recognized with a MacAuthur Fellowship as “the father of the World Wide Web.” The cool thing is that he always points to the countless others that were involved in multiple projects that eventually led to the growth of the WWW.
Folks, if there has ever been a “must read” blog, this is it. My fear? He will suffer the fate of the vast majority of bloggers. One post. Then nothing.
Slashdot has now written about it. So, let us all pray the MIT servers don’t crash.
Congrats on starting the blog, Sir. And, thank you.
Update: OK, I had to come back. Since posting the comment count there has risen to 345, or so. But, the sad thing is that the goobers have come to visit. One particularly bizarre comment refers to the ability to comment on the Berners-Lee blog. TROEF writes, “this is sorta like carving your name on god’s butt.”
The internet and the WWW. From splendor to vaudeville.
