Firefox :: Great, but problems. Fixed now, but …
the Web with confidence? Enjoy improvements to performance?
Wish I could! too many bugs…
But, recently it was getting to the point where most of my extensions had updates available for v. 1.5. Well, they keep pinging you with “updates are available” and such. So, despite ignoring that for awhile, I finally installed 1.5.
Essentially, I rolled the dice. And, I crapped out – for awhile at least.
This one is supposed to be stable. Yeah, right. Since then? Nothing but problems. I keep getting this very bothersome alert that a javascript is slowing down the page. I get it on almost every page I visit. Sometimes twice … three times … even more! I also have links opening twice – on only one click. I kid you not.
The good news is, I did find this forum post about the issue and it gives a simple “about:config” edit that ‘seems’ to have stopped the problem.
The irksome part of all this is, I have come to ‘trust’ Firefox. But, when you download something that the developers have placed up as the ‘stable’ version, and then have these kinds of problems – well, it makes you wonder. If anything, it re-affirms that all opensource software is essentially beta.
A lot of people have been posting about it in the Firefox Mozilla forums, yet the possible solution has not been marked as a sticky in the forums.
I un-installed ‘all’ of the extensions – including No Script. But, I still got the darn warning. Now, with the extensions gone – and the “about:config” edit completed – the problem seems to have fixed itself. Something wasn’t playing well together. Something did ‘not’ get uninstalled.
Sad thing is, Internet Explorer was looking positive for awhile there. That’s very sad. I kinda love Firefox. I wanted my browser back. Sorry, no smiley icons for pouting. Bummer.
But, never fear. I’m used Mozilla in the interim. It isn’t as good as Firefox, but got me through until I could fix the problem or find an older version of Firefox. Anyone else have frustrations with Firefox 1.5? I am on a PC.
