Today’s links celebrates graduate students, recent grads and involvement in the PRSSA and PRSA.

Beth Farrell and Luke Armour have been doing great work with their blog - Graduate Observations of Public Relations. They are graduate students at the University of Akron.

And, we have a new PRblog contributor. Melinda Weir, former PRSSA President at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, has started a blog. Drop by and say hello.

…PRSSA
seeks to effect change by opening access
to their group … will PRSA act?

PRSSA is seeking to allow non-member colleges/university students to join their organization. Seems like a pretty good idea. If nothing else, it may help grow the overall PRSA membership down the road. Change is slow, as is often the case, when a group seeks to protect their status.

However, it is suggested that PRSA national officers have discouraged PRSSA student leaders from speaking with the press about this issue. So, once again, PRSA proves they are not the brightest bulbs. Just like their national leadership’s sad history, if PRSA continues to attempt “one voice” command and control - while saying “no comment” (if only by avoiding phone calls and callbacks) - you prove that you are old school. The other voices will get out, and when they do it by going against the grain (or anonymous) - the effect is a focus on controversy and not the issue at hand. Does PRSA really need another controversy? Don’t you think they’d be tired of that by now.

The PRSSA students are the leaders here. How ironic. They are “new school PR” - and this is good.

Also, there is one pretty funny viral video being used to promote a new video sharing tool. I’ve hesitated using the tool for a non-profit organization because they tag commercials on the end. But, it may be the wave of the future for social communities because there has to be a revenue stream for those hosting such sites.
