It is UGA Week at infOpinions. Our recent interview with Ashley Beebe led to a pitch from Lindsey Loughman to do a podcast about the upcoming Edelman Digital Bootcamp. I will be attending, along with some Auburn students, and very happy to oblige Lindsey’s request.
After all, students out there pitching and working on a campaign … hey, ya’ gotta pitch in and support them.

Watching students as they work on projects is always fun. Recently, with the advent of Twitter – and students jumping in with fervor – it has become possible to watch their work almost in real-time.

Definition of astroturfing:
Astroturfing refers to marketing / public relations campaigns which attempt to create the impression of being spontaneous and true, genuine (and representations of *real* people and their opinions) when, in fact, they are not. In all of the standards of practice listed below, this practice is considered to be unethical.
Astroturfing is an interesting topic. I see PR practitioners that defend it as a valuable tool. Others decry it as unethical and bad practice. I’ll place myself in the latter group.

Snap Shots is a nice little plugin for blogs and sites that offers “12 kinds of Snap Shots” or little image previews in rollover popups.
They sent out an email on Feb. 13 that stated, “Unbelievably, 99 of you had nothing better to do with your lives than to create nearly 200 different badges for Snap Shots–and we love you for it.”
Well, apparently they got some mail about that one. Probably not a good idea to belittle your user popoulation, ya’ think?
