Definition of astroturfing:
Astroturfing refers to marketing / public relations campaigns which attempt to create the impression of being spontaneous and true, genuine (and representations of *real* people and their opinions) when, in fact, they are not. In all of the standards of practice listed below, this practice is considered to be unethical.
Astroturfing is an interesting topic. I see PR practitioners that defend it as a valuable tool. Others decry it as unethical and bad practice. I’ll place myself in the latter group.

Wednesday I was fortunate to participate in a presentation with some great people in Rochester, NY at the HighEdWebDev conference. However, I was in Auburn, Ala. I joined the group via Skype.

Sheri Thompson, of EBSCO Industries, writes to inform us of an unexpected internship opening. It is for this summer and they would like to fill it ASAP. Starting date is late May.
According to Sheri, “The candidate who originally accepted the position as a graduate intern position has since obtained permanent full-time employment, so our position is open again at a very late date.”

The news was wonderful to hear. Paull Young lands a great job in New York City. And, he’ll be working with another great guy, too.
The release said it all. “Converseon today named Paull Young as a senior account executive in its New York headquarters. Young, author of the Young PR blog and a respected PR blogger and podcaster, will execute social media strategies for Converseon’s clients, reporting to Converseon’s director of social media, Constantin Basturea.”
